Fermanagh and South Tyrone TUV spokesperson Alex Elliott has this morning written to the Chief Constable following the erection of Republican posters in Enniskillen and specifically one beside the war memorial in the town where twelve civilians where brutally murdered by the IRA on Remembrance Sunday 1987.
Mr Elliott’s letter is as follows:
Dear Chief Constable,
I write to inquire what action the PSNI are taking following the erection of Republican posters in Enniskillen on the night of the 10th November and particularly the one beside Enniskillen war memorial.
Given the events at that site in 1987 the placing of the poster has done enormous damage to community relations and is seen by both the Unionist community and innocent victims for exactly what it was – a calculated poke in the eye.
I write to inquire firstly why this was allowed to happen and why the PSNI did not have a visible presence in the area in the run up to Remembrance events on 11th November and this coming Sunday which would have prevented this. Failure to do so was a gross dereliction of duty in terms of your service to the people of Fermanagh.
May I also point out the potential offences which may have been committed and ask for an immediate investigation:
- Hate crime against soldiers, families and dependants and
- Behaviour likely to lead to a breach of the peace
I look forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Alex Elliott
