Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-
“In so far as this Prime Minister’s utterances mean anything, Boris Johnston’s acceptance that the Protocol needs to be acceptable to Unionists as well as nationalists, begs the question of what, therefore, he intends to do about it.
“Patently, by tinkering or easements, the Protocol can never be made acceptable, because at its heart is the anti-unionist and anti-democratic premise that a part of the United Kingdom can be ruled by foreign laws under the jurisdiction of a foreign court. Such is so irreconcilably in conflict with the very foundations of the U.K., as articulated in the Acts of Union, that it can never be made acceptable.
“Both in the absence of unionist consent and in its inherent denial of equal citizenship, the Protocol is doomed. The sooner the Prime Minister completes this journey of recognition the better for us all and the sooner we will move towards a workable replacement.”
