Statement by TUV East Londonderry spokesperson Jordan Armstrong:
“I am disappointed by the response from the DUP and UUP to Peter Robinson’s article. The former DUP leader’s perceptive contribution rightly pointed out that Unionism cannot credibly seek to get rid of the Protocol while at the same time administering it. As things stand, a DUP Minister is providing the staff manning the border. A few short weeks ago all but two Unionists in the Assembly voted to bring in a raft of EU laws to Northern Ireland, including the ludicrous provision which has resulted in British soil being banned from our Province. While our East/West links have been destroyed the North South Ministerial Council and North/South bodies continue to operate as normal.
“I hope I am wrong and but as things stand there is very little evidence of the robust, sustained and determined political action necessary to disrupt the Protocol.
“Going by the comments from the DUP and UUP today it appears that both have opted to go for the “suck it up” option as Mr Robinson put it.”
