Statement by TUV leader JimAllister:-
“Mrs May’s Deal, as many have said – and they are emphatically right – is Brexit in name only. It leaves the UK tied into the EU Customs Union and single market, able to escape only with Brussels’ permission. In addition it has been said that the Backstop is about annexing Northern Ireland out of the UK, separated by a regulatory border – and it is – then, how could any convinced Unionist and Brexiteer ever vote for it? They could not and remain true to their principles. Hence, they should not.
“For any, having come this far, only to roll over at the end would be a betrayal of all they have espoused to date. Thus, no one should be bludgeoned into backing Mrs May’s atrocious and destructive deal. If it was unacceptable when first published, because of its inherent betrayal, then, unaltered as it is, it remains unacceptable. Simple.”
