McKillop Hits Out at Lack of Gritting Following Carrowreagh Road Accident

Statement by TUV Alderman Sharon McKillop:

“I am appalled that Road Service has yet again left the Carrowreagh Road un-gritted during yet another cold spell. This has resulted in a car ending up on its roof in an accident which could have resulted in serious injury or worse.

“What makes this all the more shocking is that last December I contacted Road Service about the issue asking why it was not being gritted and pointing out that it is a main thoroughfare to Armoy from the North West.

“I received a response telling me that the road did not meet the conditions for gritting.

“I am asking Road Service to urgently revisit there position on this given that Carrowreagh Road provides a direct link to the B67 Moyarget Road. It is also important to remember that school buses regularly use the road. Just because a road is a B road does not mean that it should be missed when it comes to gritting, particularly after it has been resurfaced leaving is smoother.

“Action is required now to prevent a repeat of accidents like the one this morning. This should act as the final wakeup call for Road Service on this matter.”
