Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:
“This morning I met with a number of the families impacted by the Shankill bomb along with our local councillor Jolene Bunting.
“Recent allegations in the press have left them with serious questions which demand answers. To that end, I have written to the Secretary of State inviting her to immediately indicate if any of the information stolen in the Castlereagh break-in is capable of grounding the allegations now being made about prior knowledge of the Shankill bombing. It is well within the malevolence and agenda of the republican movement to circulate misinformation. So, it is vital that HMG clearly answers whether any of the stolen documents contain information pertinent to this important issue.
“This was one of the most brutal attacks of the Troubles. Nine innocent people were killed and over fifty were injured. In the aftermath even more people lost their lives in brutal attacks which the families of the Shankill victims repudiated.
“It is vital that the Secretary of State gives clarity on this matter and does so as quickly as possible”.
