Gaston Welcomes Grant Awards to Tackle Waste

Statement by Cllr Timothy Gaston, TUV Deputy Mayor for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council:

“I am pleased to see that Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has been successful in obtaining three funding grants from Rethink Waste which will enable our council to tackle waste in the most environmentally friendly way we can.

“The grants will enable this Council to divert waste from landfill, increase the recycling rate and reduce carbon emissions. This will benefit householders and commercial premises, enabling them to make a difference and allowing Council to reduce its waste accordingly.

“The three grants are designed to cover a variety of areas: new box vans for Ballymena and Carrickfergus areas; food collection vehicles, food caddies and reinforced bins for urban town centres in Ballymena and Larne as well as council premises; and new containers for Sullatober Recycling Depot. All designed to provide a year-on-year saving to the rate-payer.

“A lot of hard work has gone into applying for this grants and I thank the council staff involved.”
