Allister Raises Neglect of Cullybackey

During DRD questions in the Assembly yesterday (Tuesday) TUV leader Jim Allister raised the neglect of Cullybackey.

Commenting Mr Allister said:

“It is two years since the local papers carried headlines about a park-and-ride facility at Cullybackey. In March of this year, the Department of Regional Development announced that it was going to provide 110 spaces. Yet on Tuesday the DUP Minister came to the Assembly chamber and told us that the level crossing must be redesigned before work can proceed. Not only that but Translink has not even completed the land purchase!

“It is now going to be another three years before we have that basic provision according to the DUP minister.

“Why is Cullybackey forgotten and why has its bypass also been forgotten?” I asked the minister, but answer came there none!”

TUV councillor and Mid and East Antrim Deputy Mayor Timothy Gaston added:

“The delay in the Cullybackey park-and-ride facility has been something I have explored with departmental officials at length. I am deeply disappointed by what I regard as an unacceptable delay in providing this service and would urge the Department to get its house in order. Local residents are polluted with excessive commuter parking on their doorsteps. But, all the DUP minister can offer us is another three years of procrastination and delay.”
