Statement by South Antrim TUV representative Richard Cairns:
“A resident of Birchhill Park in the Steeple approached me to see if anything could be done about the rubbish and debris in the alleyways. Having heard that local residents had been trying to maintain them by themselves I wanted to see what I could do to assist.
“Residents should be praised for taking pride in their local area, but they are ratepayers and deserve to see that the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council are there to serve them.
“Having made representation to the Council on behalf of residents I was impressed that the next day the Council were in sweeping the alleyways and erecting new bins.
“I know residents will be happy, and I hope that everyone can work together to keep the Steeple in top condition.”
