Statement by TUV Court councillor Jolene Bunting:
“The Parades Commission has restricted the playing of music from Carlise Circus to Royal Avenue increasing the distance over which the bands will have to play a single drum beat.
“Once again we see the Parades Commission ignore the Orange Order’s genuine efforts to progress this issue.
“The route between Clifton Street and Royal Avenue is use on a number of occasions throughout marching season. It is one of the oldest routes taken by the Orangemen in Belfast and there are a number of parades which traditionally pass this area – two of which are the Tour of the North and on 12th of July.
“In recent years this route has been a hot spot for sectarianism from Republicans and as a result the Orangemen have been punished.
“The Parades Commission has once again shown that no matter what the Loyal Orders do they will be punished and their accompanying bands stopped from playing. It is long past the point when this basis unelected quango has to go.”
