TUV Slam Restrictions on Belfast Apprentice Boys Remembrance Parade

Statement by TUV councillor David Hollis:

“I am disgusted that the Parades Commission has decided to impose restrictions on a parade by the Apprentice Boys to commemorate the sacrifice made for freedom in two World Wars.

“This is the first time the parade by Apprentice Boys in Belfast has faced restrictions. They have been limited to a single drumbeat from the junction of Donegall Lane and Donegall Street until the junction of Carrick Hill.

“There has never been any trouble in relation to this respectful parade in the past. Yet the so-called residents group has decided to manufacture an issue around the march.

“It seems that the protestors are so ignorant of their history that they do not realise that without the sacrifice of two World Wars they wouldn’t even have the civil liberty to protest.

“The Parades Commission should hang its head in shame for bowing to pressure on this issue, particularly in the year in which we mark the centenary of the Great War.”
