TUV Request Civic Buildings Lit up for Northern Ireland Matches

Statement by Cllr Timothy Gaston, TUV Bannside:

“The whole of Northern Ireland is incredibly proud of our team – not only in qualifying for the European Championships, but to have got into the knock out stages of the competition. This is a significant achievement.

“Today I have contacted the Chief Executive of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to request that the Civic Buildings in the borough are lit up green during the Northern Ireland games to come.

“This would be a fitting tribute to show how united we all are behind our team.”

Email to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council Chief Executive:

Dear Anne

I hope you’re keeping well.

It was fantastic to have Northern Ireland qualify for the last 16 at the Euros. A great achievement for our wee country!

Of all the council areas, Mid and East Antrim are bound to have one of the strongest connections to the Northern Ireland team. With Captain Steven Davis from Cullybackey, Ballymena born manager Michael O’Neill, Gleno’s goal scoring hero Gareth McAuley, Greenisland’s Evans brothers, we’ve loads to be proud of in Mid and East Antrim!

There’s such a feel good factor in the country with the results and I think the council should be showing our support. Could I request that we light up the Braid and other civic buildings in Green every night before the next match which looks to be on Sunday, as a sign of support?

I see Belfast City and Causeway Coast Council have already done this. I’ve copied the Mayor into this email – This would be a great positive PR exercise for council and I think it would be very well received.

Many thanks

Cllr Timothy Gaston
