TUV calls for Union flag on Stormont

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-

“With 56 Unionist MLAs and 40 Nationalists returned to Stormont, and thus with a clear Unionist majority now in the Assembly Commission, I am calling on the Unionist members of that committee to act forthwith to require the Union flag to be flown every day on Parliament Buildings or at least on every sitting day.

“In the last Assembly the excuse was that the stance of Basil McCrea and John MacAllister left only 53 Unionist votes on the Business Committee. Now there should be at least 55 (DUP, UUP & TUV) – a majority. So, let’s see some early action on this issue.

“Stormont is a devolved institution of the United Kingdom and thus our flag should fly in accordance with the custom of elsewhere.”
