Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-
“It is becoming increasingly clear that TUV is the only unionist party committed to a consistent and principled stand on the IRA.
“The DUP long ago settled into government with IRA/Sinn Fein. The response of the DUP to confirmation by the Government Panel that the IRA still exists, has killed again, retains weapons and, like Sinn Fein, is controlled by the Army Council was to resume full cohabitation with Sinn Fein. Thus the DUP is wholly unperturbed by terrorists in government.
“The UUP initially did the right thing after the IRA murder of McGuigan, but now too appear ready to brush murder under the carpet for the sake of office. The UUP’s recent “vision” statement didn’t even mention the subject. It didn’t even reference the IRA. Now, it is only about settling an acceptable programme for government, and that with IRA/Sinn Fein!
“So, not for the first time it is clear that TUV is not just the authentic voice of opposition but the only unionist party committed to opposing IRA/Sinn Fein in government.”
