Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:
“As we get closer to the date of the referendum and it clear that the Prime Minister will say anything in his attempt to scare people into voting Remain. The claims have become so outlandish that Project Fear has deteriorated into Project Farce.
“Today’s latest scare story about “some sort of checks” as people leave Belfast to go to the rest of the UK ranks alongside the Prime Minister’s warning that Brexit will lead to World War III and a global recession.
“Not only would what the Prime Minister suggests fly in the face of the Common Travel Area – something which has existed since 1923 and survived a World War and a terrorist campaign – but it would destroy the integrity of the United Kingdom.
“In a word it’s nonsense.
“Cameron is finished as Prime Minister. Both he and the Chancellor will be gone after the referendum so no one needs to worry about any mad ideas they have about a budget rising taxes and slashing public spending or internal UK border checks.”
