Statement by Alderman Stewart McDonald, TUV Bannside:
“It is a great honour to be able to attend the Somme Centenary Events on behalf of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council on 1st July in France.
“I am humbled by being able to represent my constituents in paying respects to those brave men who laid down their lives to ensure we could live our own lives in freedom. While it will be a sombre occasion, it is important that 100 years on from the Battle of the Somme, that we thank those who went before us for their service.
“Many paid the ultimate sacrifice, we must never forget.”
