Statement by Cllr Timothy Gaston, TUV Deputy Mayor for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council:

“I welcome the decision that Mid and East Antrim Borough Council have committed to replace the Ballykeel 2 play park with a new bright “wetpour” surface.

“I started to lobby for this improvement when I was a councillor on the old Ballymena Borough Council after concerned residents had approached me with their concerns about the bark surface.
“This park has suffered from repeated vandalism such as being littered with broken glass a common occurrence – the existing bark surface made it difficult to clean up and any missed glass could then endanger children using the park.

“The safety and wellbeing of children using council facilities is priority and I continued the fight into the new Mid and East Antrim Council – gladly, with success.

“TUV are working hard to improve our borough for everyone, and this is a step in the right direction.”
