Gaston Welcomes Milk Cup to Ballymena

Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, the TUV’s Cllr Timothy Gaston, is looking forward to welcoming the Dale Farm Milk cup to Mid and East Antrim later this month.

Cllr Gaston said:

‘The Milk Cup has long been a highlight of the summer in Ballymena. It is a fantastic tournament and continues to attract big names from across Northern Ireland, the UK and indeed the world.

“As Deputy Mayor, I am hoping to get to see some of the matches – particularly those played in our Borough at Clough, Broughshane and the Showgrounds.

“The big crowd-puller will be the finals night at Ballymena Showgrounds, which promises to be a packed evening of quality football.

“The Milk Cup is a great opportunity to catch a glimpse of the stars of the future – perhaps the next Paddy McNair or David Healy – and to cheer on the local teams.

“It’s incredible to think that this is the 33rd year of the Milk Cup. I remember going with my Dad to watch my brother play when I was younger. It’s a great event for families, and it’s right on our doorstep! Each year the local people come out in droves to support the matches, and I would encourage families from across the Borough to try and see as many matches as possible.

“I’m pleased that Mid and East Antrim Borough Council continue to support the Dale Farm Milk Cup. Showcasing world class football in Ballymena brings in countless visitors to our Borough and provides a boost to our local economy. One of the great spin-offs from the tournament is that it gives our young people lots of positive role models and will hopefully encourage them to take up sport and get active, supporting their health and wellbeing.

“The Milk Cup continues to go from strength to strength. This year, in particular I’ll be keeping an eye on the progress of the local County Antrim teams, as well as Rangers and the famous ‘Dream Team’ from Ghana. It looks like a fantastic week of football and I’m looking forward to it!”
