Cake Row Exposes Where Real Intolerance is Coming From

Statement by TUV Bannside councillor Timothy Gaston:

“Society is well used to hearing campaigners for same sex marriage claim that they are discriminated against and being denied equal rights. The reality is that there are none so intolerant as those who shout loudest about toleration.

“The person who claims to have been discriminated against received a full refund. He had opportunity to bring his business elsewhere. Yet they chose to persecute a Christian company because they refused to produce a product which conflicted with their beliefs. Ashers Baking Company have made it clear that this is not the first time they have refused to produce something requested by a customer. They have in the past declined orders which contained pornographic images and offensive language.

“Could it be that the person who placed this order specifically targeted Ashers because of the religious convictions of the owners?

“One of the aspects of this case which I find particularly troubling is that a publically funded quango, the Equality Commission, is bringing the case. I also note that the Rainbow Project – which receives generous sums of tax payer’s money – has come out in support of those who have brought this supposed grievance. It is wrong and offensive that public money should be used in this way to promote a political campaign.

“It seems there is tolerance for all – except those with Christian beliefs”.
