Attack on Belfast Orange Hall Condemned

Statement by TUV Court Councillor Jolene Bunting:

“The naked sectarian attack on Clifton Street Orange Hall last night by republican thugs had the sole intention of provoking a reaction from the Unionist community.

“Republicans appear to be seriously upping the ante this year ahead of the Twelfth celebrations with many bonfires being set alight. It appears that the cultural war – a phrase first coined by TUV leader Jim Allister – is intensifying. So far this year we have seen several attacks on the Twaddell Civil Rights Camp, an attack on a feeder parade from the Tour of the North last Friday night, Republicans demanding the removal of a billboard advertising the Orange Order’s new museum and numerous attacks on the memorial to the Scottish soldiers.

“Unionists in North Belfast have been told that this is a new Northern Ireland yet our community are at the sharp end of this cultural onslaught day and daly. All we ask is for our culture and people to be respected.”
