AG review in Adams case shows basic failings by PPS

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:-

“The Attorney General’s review of the PPS handling of why Gerry Adams was not charged with withholding information throws up two significant failings by the PPS, namely, the failure to clarify with his niece the detail she had supplied to Gerry Adams about Liam Adams’ offences against her, and, the failure to then follow that up by interviewing Gerry Adams under caution.

“These were elementary failures for which the PPS is culpable, yet, there is no satisfactory explanation as to why the PPS was so lax. I trust the political inconvenience of pursuing Gerry Adams played no part in their thinking, nor in decision-making on what was in the public interest.

“Of course, it is still open to the authorities to now do what ought to have been done previously and take a full statement from Aine Dahlstrom and thereafter interview Adams. Such would help dispel the cloud which hangs over their inactivity to date.”
